Giant Gems Pokie Review
Like the name suggests Giant Gems for a theme has all sorts of precious stones in the form of diamonds, rubies, sapphires and emeralds. It is a luxurious looking pokie game and will definitely attract you to spin the reels. The animations are on a decent level but we expected better visual effects for a pokie with this name. The background music is classy and fast so you won’t get bored after playing for a longer time.
Giant Gems is developed by NextGen Gaming. Unlike their previous releases this pokie has a unique design and is like no other game we’ve seen before from this provider. The designers did a good job when it comes to creativity and we are sure you will be surprised by the overall game concept once you try it for real.

How to Play
Giant Gems has only 10 active pay lines. But this isn’t a standard pay line system. The symbols make winning combinations when 3 or more land on a pay line regardless of the direction and the starting reel. You have a win for example if 3 same symbols land on the 3 central reels as long as they are on a winning pay line.
Players can adjust their bet level by using the total bet button from $0.10 to $20 per spin in normal play mode. There is one more button called Fortunate spins which triggers the special feature in this pokie and increases the bet level up to $200 per spin.
There are no standard bonus rounds in this pokie game. There are no scatter or wild symbols and there is no standard feature that can be triggered. The only extra feature in the game is activated by using the Fortunate spins buttons. If you play without this option enabled you will play with the standard symbols in the game which have a low payout.
The Fortunate spins option has 5 levels in total. Each level represents one of the standard card symbols A, K, Q, J and 10. These are the lowest paying symbols and as you activate each level they are replaced by a higher paying diamond symbol. This also increases the total bet level up to $1 per spin if you are playing on a minimum bet.
The substituted symbols have a payout from 100 to 500 coins. This win is awarded only if the symbols lands to cover the full 3 central reels. This makes winnings bigger and more frequent and is a nice addition to the overall pokie design.
Since there is no standard bonus round in this game the biggest payout can come from 5 of a kind combinations for the highest paying symbols. The maximum payout in a single spin is 500 x bet if you manage to win 5 ruby symbols on a winning pay line. This is followed by the maximum 100 x bet win for 5 diamonds on a winning pay line.
NextGen Gaming seems to be full of surprises when it comes to their latest pokie releases. Most of their newest game had 40 pay lines and bonus rounds which were copied from some of their older pokies, but everything about Giant Gems seems to be original.
There are a small number of 10 pay line pokies from this provider but all of them follow the standard winning pay line pattern. We like the fact that a win can happen anywhere on the reels as long as it is on an active pay line. The background music is great but we expected more from the visual effects.
Playing this pokie in normal mode doesn’t bring any big wins on the reels and the maximum payout is from winning 5 red rubies on a pay line. This awards a 500 x bet win but seems like an impossible win to achieve. During our play it was very hard to get 3 of these symbols on a pay line and we never saw 4 of them.
The Fortunate Spins feature increases the total payouts in the game and is the only way you can make some profit. The wins from the full diamond symbols are up to 50 x bet but they do come fairly often and can give you a decent balance boost. You have to try this pokie for real to decide whether you’ll like it or not.
